David Sedaris has won the general public through his impressionable personal essays and short stories. He has penned some of the most compelling works, such as Barrel Fever, Naked, Denim, and Dress Your Family in Corduroy, among others. His first published work Barrel Fever was released in 1994. The following year, Sedaris became a regular on This American Life, a Chigaco-based public radio show.

In 1997, Sedaris released Naked, which earned a Randy Shilts Award for Gay Non-Fiction. This incredible work was followed by several more New York Times Best Sellers, such as Holidays on Ice, Dress Your Family in Corduroy, Denim, and more. In 2000, he released the New York Times Best-selling collection of essays, Me Talk Pretty One Day, which won the Thurber Prize for American Humor. The following year, Sedaris sold the film rights of Me Talk Pretty One Day to acclaimed director Watn Wang, who struck a deal with Columbia Pictures for a film adaption.

Apart from notable awards for writing, Sedaris also earned Grammy nominations for Best Spoken Word Albu and Best Comedy Album. These nominations were based on his work with Dress Your Family (audiobook) and his recording of Live at Carnegie Hall.
