ABOUT THE NEW JERSEY SYMPHONY

New Jersey Symphony is a state orchestra known for their stunning classical and pop presentations. They are the resident symphony under six major venues in the city. Emerging in 1922, the symphony was founded by Philip James with the name Montclair Art Association Orchestra. By the 1940s, the symphony became a regular at the Newark Symphony Hall. For several decades, the New Jersey Symphony has steadily expanded the ensemble as well as repertoires. The company held many concerts across the state and beyond. The current music director position is held by the esteemed Xian Zhang who has been leading the symphony since 2016.
