This 2024, the New Jersey Symphony, led by the illustrious Xian Zhang, performs a plethora of amazing masterpieces! These shows are highly curated to cater to the music-loving folks of Red Bank, New Jersey. This spring, the highly acclaimed violinist Gil Shaham will lead the New Jersey Symphony with Zhang's leadership. The Grammy Award-winning artist has been revered for his incredible performances over the years. Since 1981, Shaham has traveled the world performing with various orchestras. At age 10, he has already led the Israel Philharmonic. A year later, he won the first prize in the prestigious Claremont Competition. His exemplary skills earned him a place at Julliard School. In less than ten years since his debut as a soloist, Sham has performed incredible violin concertos by Max Bruch and Jean Sibelius with the Londo Symphony Orchestra. Throughout Shaham’s career, he has led various orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and more.

Xian Zhang is currently the music director of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. At the age of 16, she had already received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. She conducted her first symphony at 19 and moved on to become the resident conductor of the China Opera House and Jinfan Symphony Orchestra. During the late 90s, Zhang moved to the U.S. to pursue music and earned her doctorate in music. In 2002, she won first prize at the prestigious Maazel-Vilar Conductor’s Competition, which led to her scoring an amazing gig as cover conductor for the New York Philharmonic for two years.

Zhang’s long list of accomplishments and experiences has led her to become music director of the New Jersey Symphony. The esteemed orchestra is quite known for their countless amazing performances across the the state, spanning 14 venues.
