He will hit the roads of America on 18th March 2022. After performing in major cities, including New York, Texas, California, New Jersey, Tennessee, and others, Smokey Robinson will perform his last gig at Greensboro Steven Tanger Center for The Performing Arts on 20th August. In mid-June, Robinson will have a one-off performance in Canada before returning to the U.S for the remainder of the tour. American singer-songwriter and record producer William Robinson Jr. better known as Smokey Robinson, started his career as frontman of Motown and chief producer-songwriter of the famous vocal group, The Miracles. Later in 1972, Robinson parted ways with the group and started focusing solely at Motown Records as vice president. The Rhythm and blues expert returned as a solo artist in 1973 and left Motown in 1990.
Smokey Robinson's solo career did not achieve significant success initially. Although he received destructive criticism and bad reviews from listeners of R&B, he kept working hard and produced a self-written single, Cruisin' in 1979. The single secured number one position at Cash Box and was listed at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This gave him a lot of momentum, which helped him produce major single hits, including Being with You, Tell Me Tomorrow, One Heartbeat, Just to See Her and many others.
Smokey Robinson was honored with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for his contribution towards music, and his name was listed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
